These are the terms for using Ungated. They're short and in plain words. By creating an account or using the site, you agree to them and to the privacy policy, which says what we do with your data.

While we're testing
This site is a test version (the red banner at the top says so). Things may break, and test data may be reset, including when the site moves to its permanent address. Keep a backup (Account → Download backup) of anything you can't lose.
What Ungated is
Ungated is a tracker for a job search: a board of the jobs you're looking at, applying to and hearing back from, which you can share with a coach or recruiter. It's operated by Aiman A. in Texas, USA ("we", "us").
We work to keep it running and your data safe, but we can't promise it will always be available or free of mistakes. It's a tool to help you organize your search, not advice about jobs, careers, unemployment benefits or the law. Check anything that matters, such as a work search record you hand to a state agency, against the agency's own rules.
Your account
- You must be at least 16 to use Ungated.
- Use your own name and an email address you can receive mail at. One account per person.
- You're responsible for what happens in your account. Keep your email account and devices secure, because sign-in links and "Continue with Google" rely on them. Sign out on shared computers.
- You can delete your account at any time: Account → Delete my account.
Your data is yours
Everything you put on your board belongs to you. You let us store it, sync it between your devices, and show it to the people you share your board with. We do that only to run the service, as the privacy policy describes. You can download all of it at any time.
Your cards may hold details about other people, such as a recruiter's name and phone number. Only keep what you have a fair reason to keep for your job search, and don't share it in ways those people wouldn't expect.
Ideas and feedback
We love hearing what would make Ungated better, through Vote on features, Contact us or anywhere else. If you send us an idea or suggestion, we may use it to improve Ungated, freely and without owing you anything for it, and it doesn't make you a part-owner of what we build. We won't publish your name with it, or quote you, without asking first.
This is only about ideas you send us. It never covers what's on your board, which stays yours as described above.
Sharing
- You decide who sees your board, and whether they can only read it (viewer) or also change it (editor). You can take access back at any time.
- An editor's changes are part of your board, and you're trusting them with it. Deleted cards can be restored.
- Coaches and recruiters: what a client shares with you is theirs. Use it only to help them, and don't copy it elsewhere without their permission.
Free boards, passes and refunds
- Every feature works on a free board, for its first 30 cards.
- A pass lifts the limit for the days it covers. Passes are paid once, up front. They never renew by themselves: there's no subscription, no saved card and no trial that turns into a charge. Prices are shown before you pay, and payment is handled by Stripe.
- When a pass runs out, nothing is deleted or locked. You can still see and edit everything; only adding new cards waits.
- Refunds: if a pass isn't working for you, contact us within 14 days of buying it, and we'll refund it in full, whatever you've used. A refund takes the pass's unused days back (days you've used, or already given to someone, stay as they are). After that, you can take unused days off a board ("got the job" or a break) and keep them in your bank for later, but they aren't refunded in money.
- Days in a bank, and days given for free (codes, referrals, hardship days or by us), have no cash value and can't be sold or swapped for money.
- If we ever have to close Ungated, we'll give you at least 30 days' notice to download your data, and refund the days left on passes you paid for.
Codes, referrals and hardship days
- Discount and free-days codes are for the people they're meant for, such as a group's members. Each account can use a code once.
- Referral days are for real friends joining. Accounts made to collect referral days, or referrals that look like that, may be held for review or not counted.
- Hardship days are for people who can't pay right now. We may ask about a request, or decline it.
- We may change or end codes and the referral program for new uses at any time. Days already given stay given.
The rules
Don't use Ungated to:
- break the law, or store anything you don't have the right to;
- harass anyone, or put someone else's private information somewhere it doesn't belong;
- get into accounts or boards that aren't yours, probe or attack the site, or get around its limits;
- overload it, scrape it, or resell it.
Found a security problem? Please tell us privately, and we'll thank you.
Ending things
You can stop using Ungated and delete your account whenever you like. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or puts the service or other people at risk. Unless it's urgent or the law stops us, we'll tell you why first and give you a chance to download your data.
Warranties and liability
Ungated is provided "as is". To the extent the law allows, we make no promises beyond the ones on this page, and we aren't liable for indirect losses, such as a missed job or interview. Our total liability to you for anything to do with Ungated is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or $20 if that's more. Nothing here takes away rights you have by law that can't be taken away.
Changes, law and contact
If we change these terms, we'll update this page and its date. If a change matters to you, for example to prices you've already paid or to what we do with your data, we'll email you before it takes effect. If you keep using Ungated after that, the new terms apply.
These terms are governed by the laws of Texas, USA. If there's ever a dispute, let's try to sort it out by email first.
